Telescope equatorial head

This LEVELs your tripod and points it NORTH while you get the rest of your 'gear' out of the car.

This head is made in fibreglass. It rotates on a flat PTFE covered metal disk. (baking tray) The box on the left is the PWM motor drives for two of the tripod legs. (old electric screwdrivers epicyclic gearbox ) The box on the right is the tilt sensor. At the back is the screw that rotates the head This is driven by a disengageable worm and wheel on the side of the head.
